Five track-and-field athletes at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute qualified at the district meet in Yorkton May 24 and 25 to advance to the provincial meet held in Saskatoon on Friday.

A team of about 30 athletes from KCI attended the district competition, according to Kevin Kitchen, a coach of the KCI team.

Only athletes placing first and second in the midget, junior and senior age categories could advance to the provincial competition, while another seven KCI athletes, including peewee and bantam categories, had won medals for having placed in the top three of their categories.

Five KCI students, who had placed first or second at the districts, qualified to advance and were to compete at Saskatoon on Friday.

At the district meet, Hannah Pennell, in junior girls, had won gold in the 200m race and discus, and silver in the 100m race and long jump, giving her an overall second place aggregate score in the junior girls category.

Colin Tulloch, in senior boys, was one of two athletes to tie for the overall aggregate second spot. He had won gold in the 100m hurdles and silver in triple jump. He also won bornze in long jump but a third-place was not sufficient for provincial competition.

Annika Lachambre won silver in junior girls shot put.

Sadie Mcgriskin won gold in the junior girls quadathlon, which is the 100m and 800m races, long jump and shot put.

Shaelyn David won silver in midget girls shot put.

Seven KCI athletes won medals but did not qualify to advance to the provincials because either they were too young or had placed third.

Curtis McGriskin won gold in bantam boys discus.

Koryssa Woloshyn won bronze in junior girls shot put.

Ysabel Morenos won bronze in junior girls javelin.
