It was a three-person team, comprised, from left, of Josh Gogol of Canora, Carter Birch of Regina and Teddy Hudye of Kamsack, which won the Wheelchair Curling Funspiel held at the Broda Sportsplex in Kamsack on March 9 and 10.

With the success of the Wheelchair Curling Funspiel in Kamsack March 9 and 10, plans are to have another similar event next year.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy it,” said Kim Hudye, an organizer of the benefit function held for her son Teddy, who has been in a wheelchair for the past three years following a dirt bike accident.

A total of 12 four-person teams participated in the event which required persons who threw the rocks to have been seated in a wheelchair, which was steadied by a person standing behind.

Participants threw the rocks using a stick and there was no sweeping, Hudye explained. The scoring was similar to shuffleboard.

It is estimated that $5,000 was raised at the bonspiel from sponsors and team entry fees.

“Teddy has curled twice in similar bonspiels in Regina,” she said.
