Although recreation facilities remain closed, you’ll soon be able to do some fitness classes or sign up for a yoga session as long as you don’t mind if it takes place outside.

Starting June 1, North Vancouver residents will be able to once again register for certain rec programs that are slated to be held in local parks and plazas, North Vancouver Recreation & Culture announced Saturday.

More than 50 different outdoor programs – from outdoor fitness, sports, tennis, arts and other activities – will be held each week, according to a Recreation & Culture press release.

“We know our residents have been doing their best to stay healthy and active during our facility closures and we are pleased to be able to offer organized outdoor activities led by our excellent staff,” stated Heather Turner, director of Recreation & Culture, in the release.

While facilities such as rec centres, pools, arenas and fitness centres remained closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, examples of outdoor programs being offered include low- and high-interval fitness classes, breathe yoga, and nature sketching classes, the release states.

Class sizes will be limited in order to ensure physical distancing requirements are met, and participants are required to confirm that they are not sick, have not been exposed to someone with COVID-19, and have not returned from travel outside Canada in the past two weeks.

Pre-registration is required for each individual program, as drop-ins will not be permitted, the release states.

Registration starts on June 1 at 9 a.m. for classes running June 8-14.

People can register online at nvrc.ca or by calling 604-987-7529.
