The Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD) participated in a traffic awareness exercise, the “Slow Down Move Over” campaign, on Highway No. 9, south of Canora.

Fire departments from Canora, Rhein, Ebenezer and Kamsack were in attendance on March 7, along with tow trucks from Canora and Yorkton and members of the Canora RCMP.

“The exercise was to make the motoring public be aware of emergency vehicles and to slow down when approaching and passing emergency vehicles with emergency lights activated,” said Ken Thompson, KVFD fire chief.

The latest fatality in Saskatchewan was a volunteer firefighter from Rosetown who was struck by a semi while operating at the scene of a minor motor vehicle accident.

“While you are driving, please watch what is going on around you,” Thomson said. “There are people in attendance with emergency vehicles, and they risk their lives for you. At the end of the day, they too want to go home to their families.”
