The Kamsack Power House Museum held a successful annual season opening event on May 20 which was “very well attended” according to organizers.

The pancake breakfast kicked off the schedule at 9 a.m. with Cliff Paluck, Len Buenneke and Roy Nabe cooking sausages and flipping pancakes.

Serving were volunteers Eileen Chutskoff, Mary Vereschagin, Audrey Girling, Lena Buenneke, Darlene Brown and Lydia Cherkas.

“I have been helping with this for at least 10 years,” said Chutskoff. “We do this twice a year, for opening, and again for closing in the fall.”

“We should have this every Sunday,” remarked Betty Toporowski as she enjoyed her breakfast.

Adrienne Black was the volunteer who sold the 50/50 draw tickets and museum memberships.

The guestbook showed that 122 people had enjoyed the day’s activities and this was “one of the best attendances we have had,” said Chutskoff.

AnnaLee Parnetta, instructor and adult group dancer with the Sadok Ukrainian Dancers, introduced the dancers from both the Sadok Club and members of the Kalyna Ukrainian Dance Club who entertained the crowd.

AnnaLee, her son Jameson and Melody Lin performed for Sadok, while Ryker, Bree, James and Kaitlyn, all members of the Klemetski family of Yorkton, performed for the Yorkton Kalyna Ukrainian Dance Club.

The Kamsack group the Polka Pals then played for the audience. Members are: Bill Zbeetnoff on accordion and guitar; Al Makowsky on fiddle; Allan Kondratoff on base; Peter Cherkas, guitar and Brent Toporowski on fiddle and guitar. Another regular member of the band, Danny Horkoff, was unavailable.

Tours of the Museum were part of the event. “This brings back lots of memories of my Baba’s kitchen,” remarked Lana Klemetski as she and her family toured the museum and stopped by the kitchen display.

The Museum will be holding their second sponsored Artist Day on August 5 at the Ukrainian Catholic Hall, to showcase the work of local artists.

“We are looking for local artists who wish to have their photography, paintings or sketches on display for the public to enjoy,” said Darlene Brown, member of the board. “Come out and display or sell your art at our event which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are hoping to see lots of people come out and support the artists on August 5, enjoy the art and have fun.

“There will be refreshments available at the hall.”

Call Brown for more information about Artist Day, or if you wish to display artwork.
