A Canora youngster, who is the daughter of former Kamsack residents, is responsible for another “pay it forward” scheme.

In June, Sophia Hvidston, daughter of Shanna (nee Dubasoff) and Barry Hvidston, and granddaughter of Betty Dubasoff of Kamsack and the late Peter Dubasoff, donated money from the sale of the Let’s Eat cookbook printed by Karen Pfeifer of Grandma B’s Greenhouse of Runnymede, to Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon.

In November, Sophia, 5, conducted a Band-Aid drive. She had wanted to collect different kinds of adhesive bandages for the kids getting treatment in the Saskatoon Cancer Centre’s pediatrics department.

Sophia has acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has been receiving treatments since she was diagnosed over a year ago. She expects her last treatment will be in June 2017 and has been told that the likelihood that the cancer will return is very remote.

“I posted it on my Facebook site and it took off,” Shanna said last week of her daughter’s request for bandages. “The donations that came were overwhelming.

“She also had some cash donated so she could go shopping for bandages she would like at the centre,” she said. “She had so much fun with this!”

She collected 299 boxes of Band-Aids for the cancer centre,” she said. “All the Band-Aids were with kids’ prints and there were some amazing Band-Aids donated.

Shanna said Sophia and the family thanks everyone who donated.
