Throwback Thursday

Eugene Krawetz, known as the exalted ruler of the Kamsack B.P.O Elks Club, presented a cheque to Adeline Oystreck, a fundraising committee member of the Kamsack Band Parents Association. The money contributed toward a trip to Ontario for the senior band students.

Bob McKave, of Kamsack, hooked a 12-pound lake trout while ice fishing at Child’s Lake, Man. The fish was caught on a 12-pound test line with a yellow slater hook. McKave said he planned to trophy mount the catch.

An automated teller system began operating at the Kamsack Credit Union in 1983. Demonstrating the ease of operation are office manager, Darlene Brown, and electronic data processing co-ordinator, Judy Werboweski.

To help raise money for the Kamsack Minor Hockey Association, players canvassed the Kamsack public with requests to purchased chocolates. About two-thirds of the chocolates were sold, with the remaining sold at local tournaments and raising a total of $1,500.

Selected as two of the 15 semi-finalists in the Miss Teen Yorkton competition in 1983, were Billie Helmkay and Tracy Sasniuk, both 16-years old. The Kamsack Collegiate Institute students were part of a total of 127 area girls between the ages of 14 and 18 entered in the initial stages of the competition.

Snowfest buttons allowed entrance to anyone wearing them for the 1983 winter extravaganza. Proudly helping in publicizing the event were, from left; Susan Kereluke, Dana Sych, and Janne Cash.
