Norquay School drama club to stage comedy as dessert theatre

A "backstage" play, which means a play about a local high school trying to put on a performance of Anne of Green Gables, - and the audience gets to see everything from "backstage," will be presented at a dessert theatre in Norquay on May 3.

A "backstage" play, which means a play about a local high school trying to put on a performance of Anne of Green Gables, - and the audience gets to see everything from "backstage," will be presented at a dessert theatre in Norquay on May 3.

The play is Anne-Arky by Lindsay Price and is being produced by special arrangement with Theatrefolk. It is directed by Barry Chorneyko and Nicole Silvius, who are teachers at Norquay School.

The Norquay School drama club staged Anne-Arky, a comedy which has a running time of 40 minutes, at the Region 4 Drama Festival in Esterhazy on April 7.

All the flats and the entire set is turned around, said Chorneyko. Members of the audience watch the play as if they are behind the set looking out.

Everything that could go wrong, does go wrong, he said. Anarchy or Anne-Arky ensues, from members of the cast constantly hitting their heads on the apple tree to the crew lighting the stage on fire.

Anne-Arky is all about fun for the entire 40 minutes, he said.

Members of the cast are: Vienna Severight, Keely Foster, Haley Griffith, Calum Livingstone, Ashley Barabonoff, Emily Livingstone, Elena Gustafson, Serra Hort, Micah Johnson and Ella Foster.

Working as members of the crew are: Hanan Johnson, a stage hand; Cassie Dyck, assistant stage manager; Taylor Romanyshyn, stage manager; Pyper Ramsay, in charge of music and sound, and Cody Heskin, lighting.

Tickets for the production being staged at the Norquay School gymnasium, are available from any drama member for $5, or $7 at the door.  Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.

Desserts and refreshments will be served following the performance, Chorneyko said.  Everyone is welcome.
