Maggie’s, which is a new business that opened in Pelly on April 21, is a family-operated drive-in restaurant and ice cream shop located at 408 Fort Livingstone Road.

Lorilee Delawski of Rockford manages the business and works alongside her children, Meghan, Hailee, Tamara, Zachary, Wyatt and Hannah, while Delawski’s husband Murray calls himself the “silent partner.”

The name Maggie’s originated from their daughter’s name, Meghan. The business venture came to be when Meghan, who lives in Pelly, was looking for jobs outside of the community. Murray suggested they start something right there close to home where she didn’t have to commute or leave her young son.

When it came time to get the business going it became a family affair because “that’s what families do,” Lorilee said.

“It gives the girls something to do instead of being all over the place,” Murray added.

Murray built the building from the ground up as he believes it is “better to work for yourself.”

The building is a red-and-white lake cabin-style building, and Lorilee calls it “small but expanding.”

Customers park on the street and walk up to the window to place their orders.

The family has spent many years working in skating rink kitchens and in the food industry so they were no stranger to the business.

The menu consists of burgers, wraps and ice cream and as of June 1, pizza was to be added.

The Delawskis will eventually expand the building to accommodate steak and wing nights, as well as full course meals.

“People have thanked us for being here,” Lorilee said. Maggie’s is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
