Motorist charged in connection with pedestrian’s death

At 3:24 a.m. August 6, Kamsack RCMP were called to a complaint of a motor vehicle collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian on Highway No. 8 near the Keeseekoose First Nation north of Kamsack.

At 3:24 a.m. August 6, Kamsack RCMP were called to a complaint of a motor vehicle collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian on Highway No. 8 near the Keeseekoose First Nation north of Kamsack.

Police and Duck Mountain Ambulance attended and located a deceased pedestrian on scene, said a release from the RCMP issued on August 7. The deceased has been identified as a 23-year-old male from the Kamsack/Cote First Nation area. His family has been notified of his death.

The lone adult male driver of the SUV was arrested at the scene.

Lewis Strongquill, 29, of the Kamsack area, was charged with one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death (Section 320.13(3) of the CC) and one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle while over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (.08) causing death (Section 320.14(3) of the CC). He is to appear in Kamsack Provincial Court on October 6.
