A KCI (Kamsack Comprehensive Institute) athlete was honoured recently with a presentation of a Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) banner.

“At our SLC (student leadership council) Halloween assembly at KCI, we presented Curtis McGriskin with his SHSAA provincial track and field banner,” said Kevin Kitchen, a coach. “Curtis placed second overall in the junior boys shot put event at the SHSAA provincial championship in Moose Jaw on June 7 and 8. His best throw was 11.92m.

“He also placed fourth in discus, missing a bronze medal by less than half a meter.”

McGriskin has been participating in track and field with KCI and the Kamsack track and field club since he was in grade 5. Currently in Grade 11, he has two years of eligibility left to compete in the sport.

The next provincial track and field championship will be held on June 5 and 6, 2020, in Yorkton, which is KCI’s home district.

The KCI track and field athletic coaches are Kevin Kitchen, Chantel Kitchen and Juliana Nichol.
