Adult male arrested after brief foot chase

On November 28, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Kamsack RCMP responded to the report of an adult female being held against her will in her residence on the Cote First Nation, according to a release from the RCMP.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female through an open window. Officers could not ensure her safety without entering and searching the residence. The female let the officers in through the front door.

Officers observed an adult male exiting the residence through an open window. The male was known to police and was wanted on several outstanding charges under the Criminal Code.

The male was immediately advised by the officers that he was under arrest. In response, the male fled on foot, and ignored all verbal commands by police to stop.

One officer was able to stop the male after a brief foot chase and both fell to the ground. The ground was icy and very slippery at the time of the arrest.

The male was taken to hospital by EMS for treatment of a head injury. He is in stable condition and remains in custody.

The 34-year-old male was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest under the Criminal Code in relation to this incident.

On November 29, Saskatchewan RCMP have requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer.

In accordance with the RCMP Act, the Saskatchewan RCMP have requested Estevan Police Service conduct an external investigation into the circumstances surrounding this arrest.
