Recently, two members of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) were presented awards.

On December 4, Mark Forsythe, a captain with the KVFD, was presented with the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal by Nancy Brunt, mayor, on behalf of the Governor General of Canada.

The medal honors members of a recognized Canadian fire service who have completed 20 years or more of service, said a release. Exemplary service is characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency. Recipients are nominated for the medal by officials such as the fire chief, mayor or administrator. Mark was nominated by the fire chief, it said.

Forsythe began his service in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, in 1996 and continued when he moved to Kamsack.

“Mark’s loyalty and devotion to the community is quite evident and is being recognized by this award,” it said.

At the same ceremony, Kristin Johnson, lieutenant, was presented Fire Fighter of the Year award by Bruce Thomsen, deputy fire chief.

“Kristin’s positive attitude and willingness to serve her community is an inspiration to us all,” the release concluded.
