The Friends of Madge Lake (FOML) organization is a non-profit corporation whose goal is to raise funds to support projects at Madge Lake and the Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Projects are identified by members and voted on at the annual general meeting (AGM) in August of each year.

“This year our members identified the important contribution of the Duck Mountain Ski Resort to the Provincial Park and voted to support the Ski Hill with a donation of $5,000,” it said in a release.

“We are excited to be able to support such a great part of the park and the group that works so hard at making it the beautiful spot it is.”

“The Ski Hill organization is appreciative of the donation which will help to keep it operating,” said Wayne Sas, chair of the board.”

“Treats and Treasures” is the official name of the cabin store operated by FOML, and the organization is currently in the process of becoming a registered charity.

“Our understanding of this is that sponsoring businesses may donate and claim business expenses, but individuals will not be able to use the receipt for income tax purposes until we are granted charitable status,” it said on the group’s Facebook page.

The group helps to fund projects for the park that are outside of the park budget. FOML sells annual individual one-year memberships for January 1 to December 31 of each year, but has rates for three-year and lifetime memberships. Its membership is all inclusive, “for anyone who has a love of Madge Lake.”
