The Town of Kamsack has decided now would be the perfect opportunity to dive into the Kamsack Swimming Pool expansion, according to Shanley Allard, recreation director.

“Our current swimming pool liner has been leaking for a few years now,” Allard said. “At the beginning of each season we need to repair these tears. During this season’s repair, it was noted that because of the age and condition of the current liner it cannot be repaired properly anymore and, ultimately, the liner needed to be replaced.

“With much deliberation and thought, including taking into consideration the needed replacement of the current liner, it was decided now would be the perfect time to make our pool safer with more accessibility by adding a zero-depth, beach entry at the same time as the liner replacement. There was a huge cost savings in doing both simultaneously.

“This expansion will add approximately 1,700 square feet to our current pool and also includes a toddler area and a few spray features. These additions will make the pool accessible and safe for everyone.

“We pride ourselves and our facilities on being safe, inclusive places for everyone and this expansion will provide just that,” Allard continued. “The expansion is essentially Stage Two of our current pool as it was included in the original swimming pool plans and drawings. The expansion will tie into our current filter and pump system.

“The Town of Kamsack wants to ensure its pool stays open because it is such an important facility. It provides services to a very large area including residents and tourists to Kamsack, surrounding rural municipalities, surrounding First Nations and the Duck Mountain Provincial Park,” Allard said. “We have people from all over that bring their children to our swimming lessons and continue to return year after year and I believe that is a direct reflection of the quality of lessons which are offered. I am very excited about this project and the potential it has to increase the number of people that can use our pool!

“The Kamsack Rec Board has been a huge supporter of the project and created the Dive In Fundraising Campaign to help fund the cost of the project,” said Allard. “If you are interested in helping with the Dive In Campaign or if you are ready to ‘Dive In’ with a donation, please contact me at the town office.”

The Rec Board will be hosting “Date Night” on February 14th which will include a performance by Extreme Dueling Pianos and an elegant four-course meal prepared by Darrell Lomenda and served by past lifeguards and members of the Rec Board.

“This Dueling Pianos group is from Alberta and has never been to our area so it should be really good!” Allard said. “It is an interactive performance and the group plays songs by request from all eras on the piano and a few other instruments. This will be our first fundraising event for the project and we are hoping it will gain a lot of support.

“We are very excited about this project and the bright light it will bring to Kamsack,” Allard continued. “Make sure to like the Kamsack’s Swimming Pool Facebook page to stay updated on the progress of the expansion and to help with our fundraising efforts!” she concluded.
