Members of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department were at the fire hall on Saturday to give tours and demonstrate firefighting equipment and vehicles.

“The open house has been a success,” said Bruce Thomsen, acting fire chief. “We’ve had a good number of people come out and see the fire hall and view our demonstrations. We’ve given some youngsters a ride in the fire engine.”

Demonstrations included trying on the “turn out gear” which is what the firefighters call the 100 pounds of gear they must suit up in to go out on a call.

“We need a minimum of four people to go out on a call,” Thomsen said. “Right now we have 14 volunteer members we can call on but we would like to have 24, as not everyone is available at all times. People may be at work or away when a call comes in, so we are still looking for volunteer members.

Anyone interested in joining the KVFD may contact the town office for more information.
