Five persons nominated as Keeseekoose First Nation chief

Five persons are seeking election as chief of Keeseekoose First Nation, while 37 want to be elected to the 12-seat council, according to a posted list of candidates by Loretta J. Pete Lambert.

            Five persons are seeking election as chief of Keeseekoose First Nation, while 37 want to be elected to the 12-seat council, according to a posted list of candidates by Loretta J. Pete Lambert.

            Nominations were put forward on November 11 and the vote is to be held on Saturday (November 25).

            Nominated as chief are former councillors Fred (Big Fred) Quewezance and Darlene Masney (Quewezance) as well as Calvin Straightnose, Alvin (Strangler) Quewezance and Mary Wadham (Loewen), says the list.

            The 37 persons nominated for council are: Cuthbert Keshane, Mary Elsie Keshane, Darwin (Sam) Keshane, Lorenz Keshane, George Quewezance, Lyndon Musqua, Gerald H. (Lil Guy) Keshane, David Earl Quewezance, Beverly (Mrs. Lil Guy) Keshane, Ralph Keshane, Robert (Son) Louis Stevenson, David (Super Dave) Musqua, Sarah F. Kakakaway, William H. Keshane, Daniel (Lindsay) Keshane, R. Leonard (Boogie) Keshane, Mark Whitehawk, Ricky Kitchemonia, Jessi Stevenson, Alvin (Lil-Man) Musqua Sr., Jason (Eight-Ball) Kehsane, Alvin Musqua Jr., Kevin Musqua, Brian Kakakaway, Jeremy Southwind, Leslie K. Strongquill, Calvin Stevenson, Janice K. Straightnose, Joseph (Joe) Durocher, Nelson Beauchamp, Gerald Straightnose, Lane Shingoose, Fletcher Stevenson, Gina Musgrave, Norman Quewezance Jr., Matthew J. Keshane Sr. and Basil J. Quewezance.

            Terms of office for those elected are three years.

            It is estimated that 2,000 Keeseekoose First Nation members are eligible to cast ballots in the election.
