Canora/Sturgis RCMP Detachment activity report for May 7 to May 14

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls for service during the reporting period, some of which included: six provincial statutes, seven mischiefs, two assaults, two impaired drivers, two uttering threats, two thefts, and one break and enter.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP are looking for the public's assistance with the following crime. Between August 1 and September 21, 2019 a Parker Hale .270 bolt action rifle was stolen from a residence in the RM of Buchanan near Tadmore. The rifle has a 5 shot magazine, Nikko Sterling 4 x 40 sterling scope attached, and is very light weight. There is also a dark stain on the left side of the fore-grip. If anyone has any information regarding this theft, please call the Canora/Sturgis RCMP or Crimestoppers.

In the early morning of May 9 the Canora/ Sturgis RCMP had an adult male attend the RCMP detachment, frantic that he had injected some bad Methamphetamine and he was going to die.  The RCMP quickly transported the male to Yorkton Emergency Hospital where he received the treatment he required. The male was then lodged in RCMP cells until he was sober.

On May 9 the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint at the CN rail yard in Canora. Three young children aged 9, 10, and 12 were located in the yard throwing rocks and kicking vehicles. All children were given a ride home and RCMP members spoke to their parents. Members also educated the youth involved and they ensured they would not do anything like that again. RCMP would like to remind all parents that young children should still be supervised and that they should know where their children are at all times.

On May 11, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of three teenagers pounding on windows and the siding of a house on Fourth Avenue East in Canora. Members attended right away and observed the youths running away down the back alley. No damage was done during the mischief and no one was hurt during the incident.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP are investigating mischief that occurred to a truck that was parked on Fifth Avenue East and Whitesand Drive in Canora. The incident occurred on May 9 between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. An unknown person had kicked the driver’s side door and passenger side rear door, causing damage. The Canora/Sturgis RCMP along with the Canora, Sturgis, and Preeceville Fire Departments continued to responded to several grass fires this week that quickly got out of control due to dry conditions and strong winds. When starting a fire please be mindful and prepared for all possible weather conditions.
