Manitoba and Norquay rinks top Kamsack’s Club 55 bonspiel

Three rinks from Manitoba and one from Norquay were the top four teams at the Kamsack Club 55 bonspiel which concluded on March 29. A total of 19 teams each played six six-end games, said Lloyd Thomas, an organizer of the bonspiel.

            A total of 19 teams each played six six-end games, said Lloyd Thomas, an organizer of the bonspiel. The bonspiel attracted six teams from Norquay, two from Bowsman, Man., one from Swan River, four from Canora and six from Kamsack.

            Placing first was the Barry Stephen rink of Bowsman. Curling with Stephen, the skip, were: Murray Parson, third; Ray Fothergill, second, and Chris Stephen, lead.

            The Terry Pierrepont rink of Bowsman placed second. Curling with Pierrepont, the skip, were: Julie Nahnybida, third; Tracey Lasuik, second, and Lorne Pierrepont, lead.

            Two teams tied for third place. They were the Bob Lumley rink of Norquay and the Brian Cotton rink of Swan River.

            Curling with Lumley, the skip, were Wilf Romanow, third; Pat Ferris, second, and Sandy Ferris, lead, while curling with Cotton were Orest Nimetz, third; Jim Webster, second, and Orest Woloshyn, lead.

            A banquet catered by The Iron Grill restaurant in Kamsack concluded the bonspiel.

            During the banquet, Thomas recognized the sponsors and the donors of door prizes that were won and the silent auction items that were sold. In the 50/50 draws, two persons received $165 each.
