William Salisbury, 4, of Norquay is the recipient of the Duso Skater of the Month award for March.

A four-year-old member of the Norquay Skate Club was named winner of the Duso Skater of the Month award for March.

William Salisbury, who was nominated by Kaeley Kish, the club’s president, received a bursary of $100 and a certificate.

Duso recognizes a skater who works hard, loves what he or she does and is a great role model and ambassador for skating, Kish said.

“It’s hard to even describe why he deserves this award,” Kish said in her nomination papers. “This little boy started in PreCan last year with an abundance of caution and leeriness to be on the ice.

“Will is now in Stage 1 and although that caution is still there, his determination is increasing,” Kish said. “His confidence in himself is growing and that’s 90 per cent of the battle when learning new skills.

“Will is a part of our skate club and has also joined our community’s IP hockey team,” she said. “He should be nothing less than an inspiration to anyone who is learning something new and isn’t out to be a star but to just be there because you love it.

“This is what makes William a good skater,” she said.
