Organizers of the annual Old Dog Run received a demonstration last week of the type of equipment the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department was able to purchase from funds raised at last year’s run.

On August 12, a total of 10 cyclists, along with support staff, completed the 168-kilometre return trip bicycle ride from Kamsack to Yorkton. The purpose of the 2017 Old Dog Run was to raise funds for much needed rescue equipment for the fire department.

Members of the community and surrounding area responded with donations for this very worthy cause, said a joint release from the fire department and organizers of the Old Dog Run.

The riders managed to raise just over $10,800 to help support the purchase of a portable Jaws of Life system, the release said. These “jaws” are used to extricate victims trapped in vehicles or other situations such as closed areas not easily accessible.

Participants of the Old Dog Run “are very proud of our firefighters and the job they do, often risking their own lives while helping and rescuing others.”

On January 3, Tom Campbell and Joe Kozakewich, representing the Old Dog Run, attended a demonstration of the Jaws of Life equipment at the fire hall in Kamsack.

Campbell and Kozakewich expressed appreciation to the fire department and said that they were pleased that the efforts of the Run went to such a worthy cause.

Members of the Kamsack fire department gave the Old Dog Run riders “a big thank you” for completing the arduous trip and expressed their appreciation to the support staff that help the riders complete their goal.

“To all the people who made donations to the Old Dog Run’s participants, we greatly appreciate your help in being able to purchase a new, improved tool to help save lives.”
