About 190 persons attended the Norquay branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation’s annual awards night and banquet on April 14.

Johnny Petryshyn, Preeceville conservation officer, was the emcee for the evening.

Several fundraisers were held in during the evening including a 50/50 draw, raffle tables and Lucky Buck contest.

A special Ping Pong Auction was held and the approximately $5,600 raised went directly to the family of Layne Matechuk, a Humboldt Broncos player injured in the April 6 bus crash which claimed 16 lives.

“Layne’s parents, Kevin and Sherry, grew up in the Pelly area and Kevin still hunts in the area every year,” said Wilf Romanow, a long-serving member of the branch.

The banquet was catered by the Whistle Stop restaurant in Norquay.
