A piece of fibre art created by a Kamsack district artist is included in an exhibition of fibre art being shown at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery in Yorkton.
Brenda Andrews of Cote Siding was instrumental in getting the “On the Wind Travelling Exhibition” into the Godfrey Dean, said Jaynie Himsl of Weyburn, a co-ordinator of the exhibit.
“It is a higher level gallery than what most of Fibre Art Network (FAN) shows travel to,” Himsl said, explaining that members of the FAN group are from Manitoba to British Columbia.
“FAN membership includes emerging fibre artists, teachers, authors, judges and award-winning textile artists,” she said. Many have shown their work nationally and internationally and some have won both national and international recognition for their work. The co-operative engenders fellowship of like-minded friends and celebrates differences as well as common interests.
A total of 33 members submitted pieces in response to the theme, she said. Techniques used to make the pieces vary from felting, quilting, hand stitching, hand-dyed fabrics, applique, printing and others.
The exhibit is travelling across Canada for two years, Andrews said. The show will be in Yorkton April 4 to May 12.
The opening reception for the show, as well as for another exhibition that’s at the gallery will be held April 23.
“I'm hoping for lots of visitors to the exhibition to encourage future shows being booked at the beautiful facility,” Himsl said, adding that she will be attending the opening reception.
