Two teachers new to Cote school hired

Two teachers new to the Chief Gabriel Cote Education Complex began working at the school this month. Melissa Johnstone, a member of Mistawasis First Nation, was hired to teach Grade 1 students.

            Two teachers new to the Chief Gabriel Cote Education Complex began working at the school this month.

Melissa Johnstone, a member of Mistawasis First Nation, was hired to teach Grade 1 students.

Johnstone had attended the ITEP (Indian Teacher Education Program) offered at the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with distinction with a bachelor of education degree in 2015.

            Last year Johnstone worked at the Chief Mistawasis School as an academic coach and substitute teacher.

            A single mother with one son, Kash, who is a Grade 2 student at Cote, Johnstone is living in Roblin. She said she enjoys playing slo-pitch and is a “hockey mom.”

            Patricia Collins, who was hired to teach senior English, said she has a bachelor of education degree from the University of Regina.
