New branch manager begins work at Kamsack Affinity Credit Union

A man who has spent 15 years working with credit unions, including the past nine as a branch manager of the Affinity Credit Union branch in Oxbow, has begun work as the branch manager at Kamsack.

            A man who has spent 15 years working with credit unions, including the past nine as a branch manager of the Affinity Credit Union branch in Oxbow, has begun work as the branch manager at Kamsack.

            Gerard Kiefer began work at the Kamsack branch of Affinity Credit Union on February 13, succeeding Don Hrycenko of Arran who has retired.

            Kiefer is also the manager of the branches in Norquay, Pelly and Lintlaw.

            “I’ve worked in smaller communities in rural Saskatchewan my whole life,” Kiefer said last week, from his ground floor office in the building at the corner of Third Avenue and Third Street.

            Born and raised at St. Gregor, Kiefer entered the credit union system out of high school.

            “We grew up out-of-doors hunting, fishing and motorcycling,” he said. “That’s why we wanted to come to Kamsack.”

            He said he and his wife Amanda, like this area and wanted to return to a location with the many outdoor opportunities that are possible in Kamsack.

            Kiefer had lived in Preeceville for three years when he had worked in commercial and agriculture lending for Crossroads Credit Union.

            As a hobby, Kiefer said he enjoys old cars and old motorbikes and is the proud owner of a 1928 Model A car and some “old Harleys.”

            “I enjoy building old bikes and cars and cruising with them,” he said. “I used to motocross.

            “We’re excited to be here and look forward to getting involved in the community and help keep the co-operative spirit strong.”

            He and his wife, who had previously operated a daycare from their home, are the parents of two children: Gage, 6, who is in Grade 1, and Keyla, 4.
