Kamsack’s reserovir dirt walls to be used at landfill site

Those plans previously proposed by the Kamsack branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation to make use of Kamsack’s unused off-stream reservoir next to Riverside Golf Course have quite likely been halted for good.

Those plans previously proposed by the Kamsack branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation to make use of Kamsack’s unused off-stream reservoir next to Riverside Golf Course have quite likely been halted for good.

During the past year it had been said by members of the Kamsack branch that they had been considering the possibility of using the facility as a fish farm or as a teaching facility where students would learn about aquatic wildlife.

At the regular meeting of town council on October 11, all six councillors voted in favour of the start of dismantling the earthen structure with only Mayor Rod Gardner wanting to hold off.

The dirt is needed as cover at the landfill site, the mayor said on October 13, explaining that while he would have preferred if the dirt was obtained from other locations, the rest of council agreed it would be more economical to obtain it from the reservoir walls.

Council authorized public works to begin removing material from the reservoir provided the earthen structure remains intact and undrained. Every precaution is to be taken to keep the site safe and the material removal is to start on the north and west areas of the reservoir.

It was agreed to notify the wildlife federation saying that due to circumstances requiring the use of the reservoir as a source for material for town operations, council will no longer be considering an agreement to leave the facility.

Taxervice, on behalf of the Town, was authorized to proceed under the Tax Enforcement Act to acquire title for Lot 11, Block/Par 9, Plan N336.

Responding for a donation request from Kamsack Minor Hockey, council said that the 2016 donation budget had been exhausted and suggested the group re-submit its application in the new year.

It was agreed to provide some Town gear to the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute for raffle prizes for its annual Fun Night fundraiser.
