Tim Derwores of Kamsack purchased the drain cleaning portion of Kurt the Plumber’s business and is continuing to provide the service under the business name of DM Drain Cleaning.

The downturn in the Alberta oil and gas industry has contributed to another Kamsack resident returning to establish a business in his home community.

Tim Derwores of Kamsack had been employed in the oil and gas industry in Alberta and northern British Columbia for the 13 years since he had graduated from the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute in 2001. He recently purchased the drain cleaning side of the business that had been operated by Kurt Moritz, who had worked under the name Kurt the Plumber, and last month left the community for British Columbia.

This equipment consists of Moritz’s “roto-rooting” equipment, Derwores explained last week, adding that his equipment includes a camera that will allow him to see inside the pipes, without first having to dig them up.

“I can see what the problem is and then can deal with it,” he said.

Derwores said he plans to incorporate line jetting, which is high pressure hot water, which is less abrasive than the original roto-rooting equipment, and is the preferred equipment to deal with farms and other rural residences equipped with septic tanks.

To operate under the name DM Drain Cleaning, Derwores said that a normal residence could probably require the services of a business like his “once or twice a year.”

Kamsack has a situation with old trees and old piping, as do other communities in the area, and that’s where his business is in demand, he said, adding that he is equipped to handle any blockages or draining needs.

“I have the solution for all your drain needs,” he said.

Born in Regina, Derwores, the son of Doug and Janice, has lived in the Kamsack area since age 10. While working in the oil and gas industry, he was employed as a safety co-ordinator for the past seven years.

Derwores has done line jetting and roto-rooting and for the past several weeks he worked with Moritz.

“I will be offering the same great pricing and service that Kurt had offered.”

Derwores has plans to grow the business. He expects to attract customers from a wide area that includes Canora, Norquay and Roblin and plans to further his skills in the plumbing industry.

When not at work, Derwores spends time golfing, dirt biking and camping at Madge Lake.

“Like nearly everyone else, I’m barbecuing in the summer and sledding in the winter.”

DM Drain Cleaning may be contacted by the same phone number as Kurt the Plumber had used.
