Kamsack Players’ TheatreOne entry wins award for best director

            The Kamsack Players’ production of Dad’s Piano, which was one of eight one-act plays entered in Theatre Saskatchewan’s TheatreOne festival in Regina on the weekend was named the play with the festival’s best director.

            For Dad’s Piano by Dave Kelly, former Kamsack resident Leanne Keys of Yorkton was presented with the Florence Eberle Memorial Trophy as best director at the conclusion of the festival on Saturday.

The festival’s award for winning entry went to Smoke Screen Production of Prince Albert for The Zoo by Edward Albee, while the award for runner-up to the winning entry went to Regina Summer Stage for Nine Point Eight Meters per Second per Second by Peter Barry.

 The technical/backstage award went to the Regina Little Theatre for Visitors from Chicago: a vignette from the full-length play California Suite by Neil Simon.

The award for best supporting actor or actress went to David Milgrew of Smoke Screen Productions in Prince Albert.

            The two acting awards went to Brad Graham of Regina Summer Stage and Ian Dickson of Smoke Screen Productions.

Jaclyn Kilkenny was the adjudicator of the festival. She has been involved in Regina’s Theatre and improvisational scene for 20 years, said information from the festival. She is a drama teacher, director, and improv coach at Michael A. Riffel Catholic High School, where she has worked for the past nine years.

Kilkenny attended the University of Regina where she received bachelor of theatre and bachelor of arts education degrees. In 2013, her love of comedy drove her to travel to Chicago to study improv and sketch comedy with The Second City Theatre Company. She has been involved as a player, coach, trainer, and adjudicator with the Canadian Improv Games for over 20 years.
