Members of the organizing committee of the Halloween Cabaret being held next week at the OCC Hall in aid of Kamsack Minor Hockey dug deep into their closets to come up with costumes that they may, or may not, be wearing at the cabaret in order to win a best-costume prize.             With music and dancing, food and drink and costumes and prizes, a committee of the Kamsack Minor Hockey Association is planning a big Halloween bash next week.

Expected to become an annual event, the Halloween Cabaret will be held at the OCC Hall on October 29 as a fundraiser for minor hockey.

“So many people have said that this cabaret is a great idea and that they’ll be attending,” said Hillary Walter, a member of the organizing committee. “It would be fun if we get a lot of people and it does become an annual event.”

Money raised at the cabaret will help minor hockey pay for its ice time, thereby lowering the individual registration fees and allowing more kids to participate, Walter said.

A DJ will provide the music and everyone attending will vote for the best costume, she said. Prizes will be awarded to the best male, best female, best couple, best group and best makeup.

Kamsack businesses have been asked to provide those prizes.

At midnight a lunch will be served by staff of In Good Taste of Togo.

Although the doors will open at 8 p.m., those in costume are being asked to be in the hall before 10 p.m. if they wish to be entered in the costume competition, she said, adding that the committee would really appreciate persons purchasing advance tickets so that they will be able to make adequate preparations. Advance tickets are $15 per person, while at the door they are $20 each. No minors will be admitted.

Tickets are available at the Family Pharmacy in Kamsack and Norquay and from the Kamsack Petro-Canada outlet. Information is available on a Facebook page, she said. For groups of four or more, tickets will be delivered. For more information visit the Facebook page.

As of last week a total of 71 youngsters from IP to midget level had registered with Kamsack Minor Hockey, she said. It is expected there will be one team of each of IP (Initiation Program), novice, atoms, peewees and bantams.

The few Kamsack midgets have formed a team with Preeceville midgets and the team will play home games at both, Kamsack and Preeceville.

“We’re still looking for assistant coaches for the atom and peewee teams,” Walter said.

Working on the cabaret organizing committee with Walter are Joscelyn Symak, Andrea Marsh and Julie Gareau.
