Kamsack district residents help Saskatchewan chiropractors surpass goals in campaign to collect sock

Kamsack district residents have helped a Saskatchewan sock drive surpass its goal by almost 50 per cent and donated 240 of the 15,000 pairs of socks collected for those who are less fortunate.

Kamsack district residents have helped a Saskatchewan sock drive surpass its goal by almost 50 per cent and donated 240 of the 15,000 pairs of socks collected for those who are less fortunate.

Throughout the month of November, Saskatchewan chiropractors partnered with The Salvation Army to warm the feet of Saskatchewan’s vulnerable people through the Toasty Toes Sock Drive, said a release from the Chiropractors’ Association of Saskatchewan. Participating chiropractors’ offices collected new pairs and packages of socks through the month.

“We had a great response,” Dr. Wayne Strukoff of Kamsack said last week of the Strukoff Chiropractic Clinic’s participation in the drive.

“A church group donated several pair of socks and the drive was generally well received,” Strukoff said. “We’re pleased and thankful.”

Expecting the Toasty Toes Sock Drive to be an annual event, Strukoff said that the clinic will participate again next year.

Socks are a basic clothing necessity that keep feet warm and dry during the winter, but are an item that many people may take for granted, the release said. Those who do not have access to socks have difficult winters.

The initial goal of the Toasty Toes Sock Drive was to collect 10,000 pairs of socks throughout the province, but chiropractors have surpassed that goal by collecting almost 15,000 pairs of socks.

“We would like to thank Saskatchewan residents for their sock donations, and our chiropractic community in Saskatchewan for its support of this very worthwhile cause,” said Dr. Kevin Henbid, president of the Association.

The collected socks will be donated to The Salvation Army shelters throughout the province and put to good use through projects such as the Christmas Hamper program.

“This sock drive was able to provide multiple pairs of clean, dry, new socks for free to those in our communities that need them the most,” said Andrew Doan of The Salvation Army, adding that “this has helped many people have a much safer and warmer winter season.”
