Because of Canada’s 150th anniversary this year, special emphasis is being placed on the July 1 celebration in Kamsack.

Although plans are not yet completed, most of the popular attractions from previous years will be held again, said Kev Sumner, Kamsack recreation director.

Again, activities will be held at the sportsground, beginning with a pancake breakfast, he said. The concession stand will be open and members of the Community Choir will sing a few selections, including O Canada as Mayor Nancy Brunt raises the Canadian flag before pieces of the special Canada Day birthday cake are served.

At the beer garden, Cole Smith’s band Shameless will be headlining the entertainment, he said. There will be giant inflatable play structures and the swimming pool will be open.

The popular mud-bogging event will be held and Sumner is still working on putting together a slo-pitch tournament. He said that it is possible that minor hockey parents will be able to organize a road hockey tournament.

Kamsack Comprehensive Institute SRC students have agreed to do face painting and Terry Gladue of the Yorkton Tribal Council has said he will oversee the construction of a tepee to be placed prominently on the grounds.

Of course, the day will conclude with the very popular Canada Day fireworks display.
