Kamsack and area now has prime access to artistic reclaimed/upcycled unique products, inspired by “all things Parisienne” and coupled with flair.

Sherry Lynn Prokopetz, who has made Kamsack her home, is an artist who has spent the last 10 years shaping her dream into reality. “Dreaming of Paris is my creative vision which can help bring the magic of Paris into your home,” she said during an interview in her home recently.

Prokopetz has scoured North America and had collected an extensive array of furniture and accent pieces, some dating back to the mid-19th century. Because of the limited space in her home studio on Alberta Street, she has a large majority of her inventory stored in the building known as The Sugar Shack on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard.

Each piece Prokopetz works on is artfully restored to accentuate the innate beauty of the piece. She said that she starts with the basic premise that by adding decorative accents and colour she can transform any piece into an artistic treasure.

Prior to owning Dreaming of Paris, Prokopetz lived in the United States where she was a wedding gown consultant, boutique owner/stylist and global consultant for international companies, according to her website dreamingofparis.ca.

Although she has traveled and lived in locations across Canada, the United States and Europe, Prokopetz says she always felt a strong yearning to return to her Saskatchewan roots. As a child she spent many summers at the family farm in Calder.

As Calder prepares to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in July with a two-day event July 22 and 23, Prokopetz is preparing to host a vendor table at the trade show to be held during that weekend.

“Right now, my focus is on retail sales to individuals. I have pieces on hand in my studio workshop, already finished and for sale. As well, I will do custom pieces for clients to their specifications. I am also available for in-home consultations,” she said.

With her extensive collection of artwork available for rent for special occasions as well as purchase, Prokopetz is confident she would be able to furnish any event with the perfect combination of beauty and flair to be appreciated by the most discerning of clientele.

Having past experience in consulting, Prokopetz is enthusiastic about helping clients who would be interested in utilizing her expertise to plan their events and furnish the requisite rental items to make the events successful and special, she said.

“As an artist I value all things made by hand, and have even driven to Roblin, Man., to retrieve some vintage, hand-made bricks to utilize while doing renovations to my home studio and yard.

“I am excited, willing and always searching for opportunities to reclaim, refurbish and upcycle,” she said.
