KCI senior students recognized at Spectacular Spartans program

All 12 of the Kamsack Comprehensive Students in grades 9 to 12 who received general proficiency awards at the Spectacular Spartans event on June 14, and all but one of the six students to obtain the highest academic average in each of the grades, were female.

            For the first time, it was decided that three students from each grade would receive general proficiency awards, and receiving them were: Grade 9, Mila Carpenter-Bloudoff, Shaelyn David and Sadie McGriskin; Grade 10, Kailey Sterzer, Koryssa Woloshyn and Julianna Raabel; Grade 11, Elisabeth Ashley, Chloe Irvine and Shani Bear, and Grade 12, Allison Thomsen, Breanna Bland and Mikayla Woloshyn.

            Named recipients of the highest academic award in each grade were: Sadie McGriskin, Grade 9; Julianna Raabel, Grade 10; Chloe Irvine and Shani Bear, Grade 11, and Michael Chan and Mikayla Woloshyn, Grade 12.

            Recipients of the Carpe Diem awards were: Savannah Zielinsky, Grade 9; Ava Tourangeau, Grade 10; Paris Campre, Grade 11, and Curyine Stonechild, Grade 12.

            Named Super Spartans, for having acquired the most points, were: Julianna Raabel, Grade 10; Shani Bear, Grade 11, and Allison Thomsen, Grade 12. 

            The annual event honouring the outstanding endeavours of students in the senior four grades began with O Canada sung by Elizabeth Hilderman, who is a member of the 2017 Saskatchewan Express touring troupe.

            As the emcees of the program, Shani Bear, Julianna Raabel and Chloe Irvine introduced Tracy Forsythe, the principal, who welcomed the students and their families and said that the roots of true achievement is to become the best one can and the recipients of the awards are truly spectacular Spartans.

            Forsythe presented the Governor General’s bronze award to the 2016 KCI graduate who had the highest academic average: Kaylee Bowes, and Ryan Gareau, vice-principal, presented the perfect attendance award to Michael Chan.

            Kevin Kitchen presented the male and female athlete-of-the-year awards to: Michael Chan and Allison Placatka.
