A community Christmas social is the next step in the newly-formed Kamsack recreation board’s plan to revitalize the sportsground and swimming pool.

Jim Pattison challenged each of his Pattison Ag locations to get into the Christmas spirit and organize a fundraising event for a local charity, said information from the recreation board.

After much consideration, the Kamsack dealership agreed that it would like to see an effort put forth towards the newly-formed recreation board, the information said. In the spirit of the season, members of the board began planning a community Christmas social, with all funds raised going to the recreation board.

Members of the recreation board eagerly accepted and are helping organize the event and the Jim Pattison group will match fundraising efforts to a maximum of $5,000, it said.

Being held at the OCC Hall on December 16, the social will include supper and a dance, as well as a silent auction and raffles, said the information from the recreation board.

“We will also be collecting toys and non-perishable food items for the Christmas hamper project that Victoria School and Kamsack Comprehensive Institute are doing,” it said. “All the money raised will go towards rec board projects to improve recreation facilities in town.

“We will be reaching out to local businesses to use this event as their staff Christmas parties and so far there are a number of business owners who have committed to coming. It will be a good time.”

The social will begin with cocktails to be followed by the supper, which is to be catered by Craig Kosokowsky of the Iron Grill.

Tickets, at $40 for supper and dance, or $20 for the dance only, are available at Pattison Ag/Nykolaishen Farm Equipment or Kamsack Family Pharmacy. “Get your tickets early as there will be only a limited number.”

Minors will be allowed for the supper portion, but will need to be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or responsible adult.

“The Kamsack rec board is still in its early stages, but this event will be a great way to kick off our plans to revitalize the sportsgrounds and pool,” the information said. “Donations to the rec board are eligible for a tax receipt and we hope that people in town will share our enthusiasm about this project.

“We hope to hear lots of good ideas and suggestions about what residents would like to see for recreation events and facilities in town.”
